Opening an account, step by step

Registration at Stake is short at the front and demanding later, and the sequence is set out in the operator's compliance documents rather than in a marketing page. The anti money laundering statement describes the baseline collected when an account is created as a wallet address and an email address. That is the whole entry cost.

The heavier set, name, residential address, country, date of birth and postal code, is collected before Stake issues you a funding address, so the identity questions arrive at the point where money would move rather than at the point of signing up.

Gates that stop a registration completing

Age comes first. Clause 4.4 of the terms of service sets 18 as the floor for stake.com.

On the American sweepstakes site the floor is 21, per the stake.us terms, and that property also excludes anywhere outside the continental United States plus Hawaii, together with a long state list that includes Washington, New York, Nevada, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Arizona, Tennessee and California.

That list has been rewritten repeatedly; the version history on the same document runs from version 1.0 in July 2022 to version 9.0 dated 20 February 2025, which revised the excluded states.

Location comes second. Clause 14.3 of the global terms carried 44 prohibited jurisdictions at the 31 July 2026 capture, among them the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Germany, France and its territories, the Netherlands and Kingdom territories, Ontario, Brazil, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Argentina.

Curacao, where the licensee is incorporated, is on the list as well, so nobody in the licensing jurisdiction may play. Enforcement is by IP address, and the compliance statement says users who try other means to disguise where they are will be blocked.

Sanctioned states, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria and the Crimean region of Ukraine, are handled separately in the same document.

Two further constraints apply at the account level. Clause 4.9 permits one account per customer. Non natural persons are refused outright: the compliance statement says Stake does not presently allow such users, so no company or trust account is possible.

Immediately after the account opens

• Confirm the email address, which has its own step by step article.
• Switch on two factor authentication, and read the paired recovery article before you need it. Withdrawal specific protection is available too through OAuth verification for fund withdrawals.
• If you intend to use a referral or affiliate code, enter it on the offers page within 24 hours. The welcome offer article is explicit that the window closes permanently after a day, and the reward is instant rakeback rather than a match.
• Understand the wagering gate before the first deposit lands. Every deposit must be turned over once before any withdrawal or tip is allowed, tracked by a bar on the withdrawal page, per the wager requirement article.
• Set financial limits while you are in the settings anyway. Reductions apply at once and increases carry a 24 hour delay, per the gambling limits article and the deposit limits article.

Two things are not knowable in advance. Stake publishes no screen by screen registration walkthrough and no verification tier ladder, so how far you get before documents are demanded is not a published figure and we do not estimate it.

And the account you open is not deletable afterwards: closure is by email to accountclosure@stake.com, per the closure article, while the separate deletion article states deletion is not possible.
